2004 Conferences

The 8th Workshop on Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC 2004)

Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany
September 20, 21 & 22, 2004
Final Announcement
Lecture slides are available here

ECC 2004 is the eighth in a series of annual workshops dedicated to the study of elliptic curve cryptography and related areas. The main themes of ECC 2004 will be:

  • The discrete logarithm problem.
  • Efficient parameter generation and point counting.
  • Provably secure cryptographic protocols.
  • Efficient software and hardware implementation.
  • Side-channel attacks.
  • Deployment of elliptic curve cryptography.
It is hoped that the meeting will continue to encourage and stimulate further research on the security and implementation of elliptic curve cryptosystems and related areas, and encourage collaboration between mathematicians, computer scientists and engineers in the academic, industry and government sectors.

There will be 15 invited lectures (and no contributed talks), with the remaining time used for informal discussions. There will be both survey lectures as well as lectures on latest research developments.

Summer School:
For the first time the ECC workshop will be held together with a summer school on elliptic curve cryptography. This summer school is organized by VAMPIRE, the Virtual Application and Implementation Research Lab within the European project ECRYPT.

The school will take place September 13-17, 2004, in the Ruhr-University Bochum. Our target audience are students, PhD students and practitioners with background in applications and industry. More information about the summer school can be found here.

Registration:
The full conference fee is 170 EUR for regular attendees, and 80 EUR for students. Please register as soon as possible as space is limited. An online registration form is available here.

Travel:
Bochum is situated approximately 50 km from Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS), about 100 km from Cologne airport (CGN), and about 300 km from Frankfurt Airport. All three airports have excellent train connections to Bochum. Participants should plan to arrive on September 19 to be able to attend the lectures on Monday morning.

Düsseldorf Airport to Bochum Hauptbahnhof (main station):
From any of the terminals take the free airport shuttle to the train station (Flughafen bahnhof). From there you can buy a "Zone C" ticket for Euro 7.50 and you must remember to validate (time stamp) the ticket before boarding the train. There are plenty of trains from this station to Bochum HBF. The Zone C ticket is valid on S-Bahn, RE and IR trains. If you take an Intercity train then you will have to pay a higher fare. Tickets can be bought using a credit card or "Geld-Karte" at the vending machines or from the conductor on the train (this might cost a bit more). You can also take a taxi from Düsseldorf airport to Bochum at a cost of around 65 Euro.

Note that there is an airport in Mönchengladbach which is also called "Düsseldorf airport" and which is served by a few smaller airlines within Europe. One can also get to Bochum from this airport by using the S-bahn, but the journey time is longer (about 2 hours).

Frankfurt Airport to Bochum Hauptbahnhof (main station):
An exact timetable for trains to Bochum Hauptbahnhof can be found here. Tickets may be purchased at the station or on the train (higher fare).

Bochum Hauptbahnhof (main station) to the Center of IT-Security:
Take the subway U35 (direction Hustadt) and get off at station Hustadt. On the subway it is necessary to buy a ticket "Zone A" in advance and validate (time stamp) it either before entering the platform. In case you have a ticket "Zone C" it is still valid here. The Center of IT-Security is near the subway station Hustadt. The exit of this station leads to a bridge at the Schattbachstreet. There you have to turn right. You will find the Lise-Meitner-Allee after 100m at the left hand side of the Schattbachstreet. The Center of IT-Security is located at Lise-Meitner-Allee 4.

By car:
Take highway A43. Leave the A43 at departure Bochum-Querenburg. Then follow the Universitätsstraße in direction to Ruhr-Universität. Leave the Universitätsstraße at the second departure Fachhochschule/Uni-Ost. Turn right into Schattbachstreet (it leads under a bridge). Then turn left into the Lise-Meitner-Allee. The Center of IT-Security is located at Lise-Meitner-Allee 4.
