The Third CACR Information Security Workshop is the second in the series on Public-Key Infrastructure (PKI) deployment. Continuing on from the Second Workshop held at MasterCard International on March 31, 1999, this workshop will focus on specific issues such as authority certificates (in contrast with identity certificates), on-line and off-line certificate validation, certificate revocation, and related topics. In particular, the workshop will investigate current and proposed protocols, processes, and technology that will help provide solutions to meet short to long-term requirements for PKI deployment.

There is no registration fee for guests invited by the sponsors (Certicom, MasterCard, MITACS, Mondex, PIMS and Pitney Bowes). The registration fee for other participants is as follows:
  • Cdn $600 (US $400).
  • For participants affiliated with an academic institution: Cdn $150 (US $100).

The workshop will be held at the downtown Vancouver (Harbour Center) campus of Simon Fraser University (http://www.harbour.sfu.ca/). Please note that this is NOT the same as their Burnaby Mountain Campus. The nearest airport is Vancouver International Airport.

  • Location: Simon Fraser University at Harbour Centre is located in Vancouver's historic Spencer building, at the corner of Hastings and Richards streets.
  • Driving from Vancouver International Airport: From the airport, proceed north along the Arthur Laing Bridge to Granville Street. Head north on Granville Street into downtown Vancouver. After crossing the Granville Street Bridge, take the Seymour Street exit and continue north on Seymour to Hastings Street.
  • Parking: Public parking is available at many locations near the Harbour Centre campus. Street parking is free after 6 pm. The closest parking lot is at 400 West Cordova Street.


There has been a block of rooms set aside at the Delta Suites Hotel, 550 Hastings Street, Vancouver for the evenings of 8 and 9 June. PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS PRIOR TO MAY 17, 1999.

The Delta Suites Hotel is directly across the street from the SFU Harbour Centre campus where the Workshop will be held. Please mention the group name "University of Waterloo" to ensure the appropriate rate of $175 Canadian (single or double occupancy) plus 10% Provincial Sales Tax and 7% Federal Goods and Services Tax. The following information is required when making a reservation: Name/Arrival Date/Departure Date/Smoking or non-smoking/single or double occupancy/standard or signature club suite/Delta privilege #, if applicable.

All reservations must be made with a valid major credit card number and expiry date, or an advance deposit for the first night's room and tax.

If you would like to arrive earlier or stay longer, the hotel will allow this rate for check-in three days prior to the workshop and check-out three days after the workshop.
